Denise Despeyroux
Playwright, stage director and screenwriter from Uruguay based in Spain since the late 1990s. She has established herself as one of the most singular voices in contemporary playwriting in the Spanish-speaking world, with a style that blends humor, philosophical reflection and literary references.
In theatre she has written and directed numerous plays presented in venues and festivals across Spain and Latin America. Among her most frequently performed texts are “Reality”, “Black Tenderness”, “A Third Place”, “Living Flesh”, “The Omission of the Coleman Family” (adaptation) and “The Things I Know to Be True” (stage version), as well as projects such as “The Most Beloved” or “Heart of Darkness”. Her productions have been staged at venues such as the National Dramatic Centre, Teatros del Canal and on the circuit of the Autumn Festival in Madrid.
Her work has been recognized with several awards and nominations in the field of playwriting.
These include the Max Award for Best Theatrical Authorship, as well as honors such as the Ceres Award and the National Award for Dramatic Literature of Uruguay.
